OYO - On Your Own 2023
OYO's - On Your Own campers - are girls entering 7th grade.
This camp unit is a bit different. Campers help decide what activities their group will do during the week. Some of the activities can be local and some can range a bit farther. It allows the campers to branch out - make new friends, try new things - and have a fantastic camp adventure!
What kinds of activities might be possible?
Here are some examples.....
o outdoor cooking (maybe a Chopped competition?)
o tie-dyeing t-shirts
o craft session, maybe at or sponsored by a local business
o swim session at McMenamins pool
o class in yoga, or self-defense or......campers' choice!
o first aid class
o biking on the river trail
o scavenger hunt
o explore UW Bothell / Cascadia grounds, including the wetlands
o kayaking or paddle boarding on the river (as long as it meets GSWW safety guidelines)
o service project, either for the park or maybe at the Northshore Senior Center, near Blyth, or at UWB/Cascadia
o virtual escape room
o spend a day at camp shadowing a Program Aide/Program Aide in training & working with campers
o the sky's the limit!
The OYO unit is usually split into smaller groups of 8-12 girls. All of the groups do the same activities each day, but sometimes on a different schedule (this helps for planning purposes).
OYO is not intended to be an extension of a troop; we want campers to make new friends. As such, we will not honor extensive buddy requests. If your troop members want to do activities together, we encourage you to organize those outside of the camp framework.
The OYO program is VERY dependent on Volunteer/Parent assistance!
We need volunteers to....

- help organize/plan the camper-selected events.
- chaperone (two adults per OYO group per day are essential).
- assist with carpools, if needed.
